Special Works
SSVP Special Works are structured, organized projects operated by Central or Particular Councils to provide specialized, long-term, or systemic aid to individuals in need. While the core of the Society is person-to-person home visits by local volunteers, Special Works are established to address more complex, ongoing community needs that require significant resources, staffing, or infrastructure.
SSVP Halifax owns three special works, Hope Cottage, Hand In Hand, and Ozanam Place.

Hope Cottage in Halifax is a non-profit charity and soup kitchen on 2435 Brunswick St. that has provided free, hot meals to those in need since 1970. Serving over 200 meals daily (Monday-Friday), it relies entirely on donations and volunteers, offering lunch and supper to people experiencing food insecurity in the community.
Hand in Hand in Halifax is a non-profit thrift store operated by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, located at 440 Herring Cove Road in Spryfield. It offers affordable, secondhand clothing, furniture, and household items to the community, while providing support to those in need.

Ozanam Place is a 38-unit, $15-million supportive housing development in Halifax, Nova Scotia, designed for individuals aged 50 and older experiencing chronic homelessness. Located at 2445 Brunswick St. next to Hope Cottage, this facility features 33 studio and 5 one-bedroom units, operated by the North End Community Health Centre to provide stable, affordable housing with on-site support.
